Mark Teixeira wins Texas 21st Congressional District, replacing Chip Roy

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA NEWS) — Former Major League Baseball star Mark Teixeira has won Texas’ 21st Congressional District, defeating Democrat Kristin Hook in a race to represent the Texas Hill Country and parts of northern Bexar County.
The Associated Press projected Teixeira as the winner early Wednesday. With votes still being counted shortly before 1 a.m., Teixeira led Hook 55% to 45%.
Teixeira, a first-time political candidate, campaigned on lowering health care costs, imposing congressional term limits, cutting government spending and defending parental rights.
He succeeds Republican Chip Roy, who opted against seeking re-election to pursue the Texas attorney general’s race.
“Tonight’s victory belongs to the people of Texas’s 21st District,” Teixeira wrote in a post on X. “I’m not going to Washington for myself, but rather to be a strong, responsive voice for every family in this district.”
Teixeira’s victory comes amid significant Democratic gains in other Texas races, including contests for the U.S. Senate, governor and congressional seats.
The 21st District has not elected a Democrat to Congress since Bob Krueger won the seat in 1975.
The district includes Bandera, Blanco, Comal, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr and Real counties, along with portions of Bexar and Hays counties.
According to state demographic data, approximately 54% of the district’s roughly 767,000 residents are white, 34% are Hispanic and 5.3% are Black. The district covers nearly 6,300 square miles.
In the 2024 presidential election, 60.2% of district voters supported President Donald Trump.
