Despite Recent Rain, Forestry Officials Warn Oregon’s Fire Season Continues
SALEM, Ore. – Rain and cooler weather may have arrived in parts of Oregon, but fire season is not over, state forestry officials warned Friday.
The Oregon Department of Forestry said several districts recently have updated their fire danger levels and restrictions. However, fuels remain dry in many areas, and warmer weather is expected to return next week.
Officials urged Oregonians to check local fire restrictions and danger levels before conducting outdoor activities that could spark a fire.
Debris burning remains the leading cause of human-caused wildfires in Oregon and is prohibited during fire season, ODF said. Residents should cover debris piles and wait until fire season is officially over before burning.
Officials also urged residents to check local restrictions before having a campfire or warming fire and never leave fires unattended.
