Portland Police Make More Arrests Related to Busy July 4th Holiday Weekend
Portland police have made two new arrests in connection to a shooting in the Buckman neighborhood and a downtown robbery earlier this month.
Michael Herring Jr. was taken into custody for attempted murder five days after the shooting.
Investigators then executed a search warrant at Jazman Moore Jr’s house. Detective say he ran over several rooftops to avoid police, leaving a gun behind on one. He was arrested Friday for assault.
Chief Bob Day says his department feels the effects of the new budget, which took effect just before the holiday.
“We continue to be a very understaffed, under-resourced police department,” Day said. “We estimate probably about $100,000 in overtime expenditures.”
“We had several vacancies or unfilled positions,” Day continued. “I know going into the weekend prior to stacking our rapid response team, we were down numbers.”
