Dan Lanning Reportedly Gets New 6-Year Deal At Oregon With Raise To $11 Million A Year

Dan Lanning will be among the top-five highest-paid coaches in college football with a new contract he has reportedly agreed to with University of Oregon.

Per Yahoo! Sports’ Ross Dellenger, Pete Thamel of ESPN and other reports, Lanning has a new six-year contract that pays $11 Million annually and runs through the 2030 season.

Lanning’s buyout, notably, remains unchanged at $20 Million.

The 38-year-old Lanning is entering his fourth season as Oregon head coach, having gone 35-6 overall. Last year Oregon went 13-0 and won the Big Ten Championship over Penn State in their first year as members of the conference, but were blasted by Ohio State in the Rose Bowl quarterfinal of the College Football Playoff.

Per CBS Sports, Lanning’s $11 Million annual salary ranks only behind Georgia’s Kirby Smart ($13.2M), Ohio State’s Ryan Day ($12.5M), and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney ($11.5M) for highest in the sport.

Lanning previously was making a total compensation of $8.2 Million per USA Today, the fourth-highest mark in the Big Ten alone and fourteenth-highest in the country.

Day and Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian each received new extensions with their respective schools earlier in the offseason.
