Thirteenth-ranked Oregon Ducks basketball couldn’t overcome the stingy defense of the visiting No. 17 Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday afternoon in front of a nationally-televised audience on NBC, losing 65-58 at Matthew Knight Arena.

Oregon shot just 36% from the field and were led by Nate Bittle’s 18 points and 12 rebounds and Jackson Shelstad’s 15 points. Oregon went 7 for 29 from three-point range.

Purdue won its seventh straight game led by the 23 points and 11 rebounds of Trey Kaufman-Renn. Junior guard Braden Smith had 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Purdue (16-2 overall) rises to the second place in the Big Ten standings with a 7-1 conference mark, trailing only 7-0 Michigan State. The Ducks slip to seventh in the conference standings at 4-3 (15-3 overall).

The Ducks slipped a couple spots in the following Monday’s AP Poll to No. 15. Oregon is next in action Tuesday night hosting the rival Washington Huskies at Matthew Knight Arena, tip off set for 8:00 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
