There isn’t a lot of optimism after a tumultuous few years, but the Blazers are embracing a new era led by young talent and promising rookies. Here are three key storylines to keep an eye on as the season unfolds.
1. The Growth of Shaedon Sharpe and Scoot Henderson
One of the most exciting narratives for the Blazers this season centers around the development of their young stars, Shaedon Sharpe and Scoot Henderson. Sharpe, who averaged an impressive 15.9 points per game last season, demonstrated flashes of stardom before injuries sidelined him for 50 games. Unfortunately, he’s already dealing with a shoulder injury that could keep him out for 4-6 weeks to start the season. Despite this setback, Sharpe’s athleticism and shooting prowess signal that he has the potential to become a superstar.
Meanwhile, Scoot Henderson, the former No. 3 overall draft pick, enters his second season with a renewed sense of purpose. After a rocky start to his rookie campaign, Henderson improved significantly in the latter half of the season. He remains resolute in his ambitions, stating that he aims to be one of the best point guards in the league. However, he must improve on his shooting efficiency, having finished his rookie year with a 38.5% field goal percentage and 32.5% from three-point range. The development of these two players will be crucial for the Blazers’ success moving forward.
