Oregon State Needs To Be Bowl Eligible This Season

We are about a month away from Oregon State’s opening game against Idaho State at Reser Stadium. It will be a lot of different firsts. The first game as head coach for Trent Bray, the first game as offensive coordinator for Ryan Gunderson, and the first game for the Beavers on The CW. It’s also the Beavers first step to becoming bowl eligible.
Expectations for the Beavers are all over the place. John Canzano on the Bald Faced Truth says the task is simple. Get the team ready, and then make a bowl game.
“You have until the start of the season. About a month from now to get yourself together as a football program, get yourself focused on the task at hand, and get yourself in a position to be bowl eligible this season. The bar for Trent Bray in year one is bowl eligibility.”
While bowl eligibility may not seem like a tough thing to do for the Beavers. Canzano has some reasonable doubt based on what the roster looks like and what the roster lost in the offseason. Even with the questions. Canzano thinks the Beavers coaching staff will be the difference.
“I have some reasonable doubt. I don’t like the quarterback room at Oregon State. But I do like the coordinator Ryan Gunderson. I think he’ll find a way.”
The roster may not need to be as talented this season as years past because of the schedule the Beavers have. No longer is it a Pac-12 schedule. It is mostly a Mountain West schedule. Canzano is looking at the schedule and thinks there is one game in particular that the Beavers need to win.
“I’m looking at their schedule. There are some winnable games in the first six games of the season. The one jumping off the page at me is a non conference against Purdue at Reser Stadium. Purdue picked last in the Big 10 conference and have not been impressive. You’re at home a place where you have won and won and won and won.”
The Beavers have about a month before the season starts to get ready. It won’t be the toughest schedule, but it could be the most important schedule the Beavers will ever play.
