After a big series win at home over No. 12 UC Irvine, the Oregon State Beavers baseball team rose a few spots from No. 11 up to No. 8 in Monday’s latest Top 25 from D1Baseball.com.
Oregon State lost the opener decisively to the Anteaters on Friday night by a score of 12-0, but bounced back Saturday to win 4-2 and again for Sunday’s rubber game 7-4.
As for the Ducks, they took two out of three from Michigan in a Big Ten series at PK Park. Oregon entered the weekend at No. 15 in the ranking, and stayed put. Oregon’s offense was impressive putting up 39 runs over the three games with the Wolverines, with victories of 15-2 and 13-3 before a 12-11 defeat on Sunday. Oregon also lost earlier in the week at University of Portland with a walk-off hit by pitch in the bottom of the ninth.
The No. 15 Ducks are 22-9 overall and 10-5 in Big Ten play, currently third in the conference standings behind No. 10 UCLA (10-2) and Iowa (12-3). The Ducks go on the road for the next seven games, starting with a weekend conference series at Maryland, followed by a one-game non-conference visit to Georgetown next Monday, and three games the following weekend at No. 10 UCLA as Big Ten play resumes.
The No. 8 Beavers are also on the road for their next eight contests as they continue to navigate the season as an independent. At 22-7 overall, the Beavers are next in action Tuesday night visiting the University of Portland, then visit Cal State Fullerton for a three-game series this weekend, a single game at No. 10 UCLA the following Tuesday, and three more at Cal State Northridge.
