The Seahawks reportedly are turning to Sam Darnold to be their quarterback of the near future following the trade of Geno Smith to Las Vegas on Friday.

Darnold has agreed to a 3-year deal worth $100.5 Million, per multiple reports. It includes $55 Million guaranteed.

It continues a busy last week for Seattle. They cut a bevy of players for cap reasons last week including the release of franchise legend Tyler Lockett that was immediately followed by a trade request from star receiver DK Metcalf. Then came the trade of Smith to the Raiders on Friday late afternoon, Metcalf’s trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, and now the move for Darnold as the legal tampering period of free agency begins.

Darnold reunites with new Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Darnold was a backup in San Francisco in 2023 when Kubiak was the 49ers’ passing game coordinator.

Darnold turns 28 in June. This will be eighth season in the NFL after he was the No. 3 overall pick of the New York Jets in the 2018 NFL Draft. Darnold spent three seasons with the Jets, two with the Carolina Panthers, one with the 49ers and this past season with the Minnesota Vikings.
