WSU Star QB John Mateer To Enter Transfer Portal

Washington State star quarterback John Mateer announced Monday he will enter the transfer portal with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Mateer spent three seasons in Pullman including one as the starting quarterback replacing Cam Ward. Mateer thrived leading the Cougs offense, totaling 29 touchdown passes and adding another 15 scores on the ground. Washington State went 8-4 with wins over Texas Tech and rival Washington, but lost three straight to end the regular season.
Mateer will not be with the Cougars for their Holiday Bowl game against Syracuse on Dec. 27th in San Diego. He is widely rated the top quarterback available in the transfer portal.
Initial reports favor Oklahoma or Auburn to land Mateer, whose playcaller at Washington State, Ben Arbuckle, recently took the offensive coordinator job with the Sooners.
Washington State faces Oregon State twice in a month next season, the first meeting scheduled for Nov. 1st in Corvallis before the regular season finale on Nov. 29th in Pullman.
